Please call 01856 872388 or book online
Consultations with either GPs or nurses are by appointment only, and are made at ten minute intervals. A separate appointment is required for each person needing to be seen.
We will guarantee you an appointment within 48 hours (not including weekends), although if you wish to see a specific doctor you may need to wait longer for an appointment. If you wish to see a particular doctor, please inform the receptionist.
At Heilendi Practice we have four different types of appointments which are listed below.
On the Day Appointments
On the day appointments are available by ringing 01856 872388 or 01856 872152 each morning from 08:30. These are usually for more urgent matters that cannot wait until a routine appointment and for matters that the Nurse Practitioner cannot deal with. We are not able to guarantee that you will be able to see the Doctor of your choice, but we will try to accomodate your request.
Routine appoints are limited which are for non-urgent matters or for patients who prefer to continue seeing the doctor that has been treating an on-going problem.
Duty Doctor Appointments
Everyday we have a Doctor who is the Duty Doctor and deals with all requests for urgent advice and/or treatment that day. If all the 'On the Day' appointments are taken, the Duty Doctor will deal with anyone who feels they are unable to wait until another day. The Reception Team will take a telephone number and the Duty Doctor will give the patient a call back. The Duty Doctor will then offer a 'Duty Doctor' appointment if he/she requires the patient to come in, or will give advice over the phone.
Emergency appointments are available every day. The Duty Doctor will triage all emergency appointment requests by telephone and offer advice or an appointment with a GP that day, if appropriate.
At Heilendi Practice, our Clinical staff deal with Minor Injuries; so instead of going to A&E for Minor Injuries you can be seen at the Practice for:
- Sprains and strains.
- Wound infections.
- Minor burns and scalds.
- Minor head injuries.
- Insect and animal bites.
- Minor eye injuries.
- Minor injuries to the back, shoulder and chest.
However, our Clinical staff cannot treat:
- Chest pain.
- Acute breathing difficulties.
- Major injuries.
- Severe allergic reactions/anaphylaxis.
If you have a minor injury and are in any doubt whether a member of our clinical staff can treat you please get in contact with the Practice and one of our Doctors can give you verbal advice.
Some conditions or a request for advice can be dealt with over the phone to save you coming to the surgery. If you require a telephone consultation with a GP or a nurse, please telephone the practice and ask for a telephone consultation appointment.
Important Facts about Appointments
- If you decide your appointment is no longer needed, please ring up and cancel as soon as is possible so that someone else can have the appointment instead.
- If more than one family member needs to see the Doctor, please make a seperate appointment for each family member.
- If you have several different problems to discuss with the Doctor, please make a longer appointment or seperate appointments, as routine appointments are only 10 minutes long.
- If you are more than 10 minutes late for an appointment you will have to re-book for another time.
If appropriate, a Doctor will offer you the opportunity for a chaperone to be present or you can request this service yourself.
In a number of cases it might be worth considering an appointment with a practice nurse rather than a doctor. Practice nurses are qualified to deal with many conditions and you may be seen more quickly. Cindy our Nurse Practitioner can also prescribe medications. Our nurses usually consult between 08:30 - 12:10 and 14:00 - 16:00 however later appointments are sometimes available.
The surgery can be accessed by a ramp as well as steps and there is a disabled toilet for patient use. The surgery also has an induction loop. Please ask at reception for any assistance you require to access these premises; opening/holding doors open, assisting patients into/out of the building. All notices can be made available in larger print.
