Our experienced Nursing team offer a number of different types of service to patients, working closely with the Doctors in certain areas and also independently in their own fields of expertise.

Doris is our part time Health Care Assistant. She can be seen if you need investigation tests such as Blood Tests, Urine Tests and ECG's. She also offers Hypertension Management (High Blood Pressure) following a protocol, supervised by the Doctor or Nurses and administers Vitamin B12 injections.
She is also available for lifestyle advice: weight manangent, diet and excercise advice, health promotion regarding alcohol consumption and Smoking Cessation, and new patient checks.
Olive provides relief cover for annual leave.

The NHS Orkney Primary Care Pharmacy Team are a new and exciting addition to our team at Heilendi Practice. The team are assisting the Practice by undertaking medication reviews, service improvement work and will input significantly to safe and effective prescribing in the Practice. You may receive a phone call from one of our Pharmacists to review your prescription requests or to carry out one of your annual medication reviews, please be assured the Pharmacy team work closely with the Doctors, Nurses and Admin team at Heileindi to ensure the best possible care is provided. Our Pharmacy team consists of Lyndsay Steel, Chris Woolham and Sylvia Robertson and they are all highly trained clinical Pharmacists with independent prescribing qualifications.

A health visitor is a registered nurse who has received training particularly related to babies, children and pregnant women. Their role is to provide families with children under five years old with support and advice around the general aspects of mental, physical and social wellbeing.
Michele is a Community Link Practitioner. She supports patients to access non-medical services and activities available in the community to help improve their health and wellbeing.

The role of Primary Care Mental Health Nurse is an exciting new addition to the Primary Care multidisciplinary team, which has been growing over the recent months. The purpose of this role is to allow access to specialist mental health support and treatment direct from the local GP practices. By intervening earlier, we hope to improve outcomes for patients and in some cases more severe mental health difficulties may be avoided.
The main focus of the Primary Care Mental Health Nurse position is:
Patients may be referred to this service after being reviewed by their GP or other specialist service. Patients who feel they may benefit from this service can also book an appointment by contacting Heilendi on 888270. Please note, for those patients who are currently receiving treatment from the Community Mental Health Team, Children and Adolescent Mental Health Service, Psychiatry or Psychology, we would ask that any queries be referred to them in the first instance.

The Heilendi & Dounby teams cover the Heilendi practice area. The community nurses work very closely with the GPs to provide care to individuals in their own homes and in residential homes.

The team provides care for individuals with mental health problems, alcohol and drug addiction. There is also a specialist team which deals with dementia and other mental health problems, such as depression, for those over 65.

The Macmillan team help care for patients with cancer and other serious illnesses in the hospital and the community. As well as providing terminal care they are also experts in the treatment of cancer, pain and symptom control. All of the Heilendi GPs work with the team at Macmillan House to provide care both on an inpatient and outpatient basis.

The Midwives and staff of the Balfour Hospital Maternity Unit provide care for women during pregnancy. Appointments can be made with the maternity unit on 888238.
We also work closely with other health care professionals including dietitians, physiotherapists, occupational therapists and speech & language therapists. With the patient’s consent, we also work alongside Social Services and voluntary organisations.
