Dr McNab is a GP trainee at Heilendi Practice. He will be with us for 6 months from August 2020 onwards. He will then return in August 2021 to continue his training.
Heilendi Nursing Service
Our experience nursing team offer a number of different types of service to patients, working closly with the Doctors in certain areas and also independantly in their own fields of expertiece.
Both Cindy and Susan can be seen for the following types of treatment or health advice as well as their own specialist areas.
RGN, BA, Advanced Nurse Practitioner, Diplomas in Asthma, Diabetes and Cervical Cytology, Cert. in Family Planning, Non-medical Prescriber.
Cindy is our part time Prescribing Nurse Practitioner - which means she can deal with some problems normally seen by a Doctor. This includes:
Cindy runs the diabetes management clinics. She can also prescribe medication independantly from the doctor.
RGN, Diploma in Primary Care Coronary Heart Disease Prevention, Diploma in Asthma.
Susan, our full time experienced Practice Nurse, offers a variety of services and has a special interest in Heart Disease.

Doris is our part time Health Care Assistant. She can be seen if you need investigation tests such as Blood Tests, Urine Tests and ECG's. She also offers Hypertension Management (High Blood Pressure) following a protocol, supervised by the Doctor or Nurses.
She is also available for lifestyle advice: weight manangent, diet and excercise advice, health promotion regarding alcohol consumption and Smoking Cessation, and new patient checks.
Olive is covering for Susan Bruce while she's on maternity leave and will provide relief cover for annual leave after November 2020.

A health visitor is a registered nurse who has received training particularly related to babies, children and pregnant women. Their role is to provide families with children under five years old with support and advice around the general aspects of mental, physical and social wellbeing.
Michele is a Community Link Practitioner. She supports patients to access non-medical services and activities available in the community to help improve their health and wellbeing.
Heilendi practice believes that working closely with an extended team of health professionals will allow us to deliver the best care to our patients. This team comprises many other professionals employed by NHS Orkney and includes:

The Heilendi & Dounby teams cover the Heilendi practice area. The community nurses work very closely with the GPs to provide care to individuals in their own homes and in residential homes.

Mental Health Team telephone 01856 888280
The team provides care for individuals with mental health problems, alcohol and drug addiction. There is also a specialist team which deals with dementia and other mental health problems, such as depression, for those over 65.

The Macmillan team help care for patients with cancer and other serious illnesses in the hospital and the community. As well as providing terminal care they are also experts in the treatment of cancer, pain and symptom control. All of the Heilendi GPs work with the team at Macmillan House to provide care both on an inpatient and outpatient basis.

The Midwives and staff of the Balfour Hospital Maternity Unit provide care for women during pregnancy. Appointments can be made with the maternity unit on 888238.
We also work closely with other health care professionals including dietitians, physiotherapists, occupational therapists and speech & language therapists. With the patient’s consent, we also work alongside Social Services and voluntary organisations.
